the moon that wasn't

by Dex Moltke · Apr 14, 2026

A group chat called a token "the moon." It printed +240% in six hours. The cope market said "moon" at 62%, and half the pool bet the other way.

It rugged at hour 19. Not a slow bleed — a hard rug, −92% in one block. The "rug" side collected, the arbiter signed the result on-chain, and the winners got paid before the group chat finished asking what happened.

the market knew first

Not because anyone had inside information. Because a market with two sides and real money has to be honest — the odds are just the crowd pricing its own doubt. When "moon" only pays 62%, the crowd is telling you it's not sure.

that's the whole product

Cope doesn't tell you what will happen. It gives you a place to bet on what you believe, and a chain that settles it without asking anyone. The cope is a price, not a promise.
